Viral bank passbook holder apologizes: I got carried away by emotions

The man who sought sympathy on social media over withdrawals that were made under his account has issued a public apology after BDO Unibank Inc. recently verified that all the transactions were valid.

Account holder Gleen Cañete admitted that he got emotional when he posted the now-deleted viral video.

"Kusang loob ko po itong ginawa dahil na-realize ko na hindi tama na masyado akong nagpadala sa bugso ng damdamin at lumabas sa social media," he said in a Facebook post.

(I did this because I realized that I was wrong for getting carried away by my emotions, and that I even shared about it on social media.)

"Noong malaman ko na mismo ang [pamilya] ko ang nag-withdraw ng pera, agad agad kung binura ang live video para na rin sa kapakanan ng pamilya ko at sa BDO Unibank," Cañete wrote.

(When I found out that it was my family who withdrew the money, I immediately deleted the live video for the sake of my family and of BDO Unibank.)

"Dahil pamilya ko ang na involved sa incidente pinili kung manahimik ng ilang araw para makapag isip ng tama."

(I chose to be silent for a few days to gain a clear mind, because my family is involved.)

In the Facebook video originally posted on June 21, Cañete cried for help, saying some P345,000 was taken from his account. He previously declined to disclose the full details of what happened.

Now, he asked for understanding as he just wanted to provide for his child's future.

"Sana maintindihan nyo rin ako at ako'y inyong mapatawad at maibalik ang tiwala nyo sa akin bilang isang ama na nagsikap para sa kanyang anak," he said.

(I hope you would understand, forgive, and trust me again because I’m just a father working hard for my child.)

"May tiwala po ako sa nasabing banko BDO Unibank at katunayan account holder po nila ako ng mahabang panahon," Cañete added.

(I have faith in BDO Unibank and I've actually been its account holder for a long time.) — VDV, GMA Integrated News
