Lazada denies data breach

Online shopping platform Lazada has denied claims that records of about 18 million customers have been breached.

Online shopping platform Lazada has denied claims that records of about 18 million customers have been breached.

“Lazada Philippines firmly denies recent allegations of a data breach on the platform’s system,” the e-commerce platform said in a statement.

“Following a thorough investigation, Lazada has confirmed that no customer information has been compromised,” it said.

Lazada issued the statement after cybersecurity page Infosecdad claimed a major breach of Lazada’s 18 million customers’ records — including names, emails, and addresses — were being sold on a Chinese hacking forum.

Infosecdad, on its Facebook page, said it took down its post related to Lazada since the platform already responded.

"Upon close review, we have determined that the information shared in the post (by account name: Infosecdad) is completely false, and we have found no matches in our customer database,” Lazada said.

The e-commerce platform said it is committed to providing a safe and trusted ecosystem for consumers, brands, and sellers, with data security as its highest priority.

“Lazada assures all users that the company employs stringent security measures to protect customer data. Regular audits and advanced security protocols are in place to prevent unauthorized access to users’ personal data,” Lazada said. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
