Maynilad customers in 9 barangays in Imus, Cavite to get over P1k rebate 


Customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in nine barangays in Imus City, Cavite, should expect rebates of over P1,000 in the next billing month after the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) fined the water concessionaire for poor water quality in the service area.

In a text message, MWSS-RO chief regulator Patrick Ty said the regulator imposed a financial penalty of P3,921,567.50 against Maynilad for a water quality failure incident, specifically the failure in color and residual chlorine at the Anabu Modular Treatment Plant (ModTP) and its supply zone in Imus.

The penalty will be settled by Maynilad in the form of rebates to a total of 3,494 water customers in nine affected barangays in the city.

Each affected customer will receive a rebate of P1,122.37 in their July bills.

''Not all residents inside the barangays are included,'' Ty said.

The MWSS-RO earlier imposed a similar financial penalty against Maynilad for water quality failure, particularly in total coliform at a regulatory sampling point supplied by Caloocan Pumping Station and Reservoir.

Affected customers in Caloocan will get a rebate of P530.69 on their bills next month.

In a separate statement, Maynilad said it respects and abides by the decision of the MWSS-RO to impose a financial penalty for the “isolated water quality non-compliance incidents in Caloocan and Imus.”

The water concessionaire said the penalty would be distributed as rebates on the monthly bills of the specific affected customers.

“We want to assure our customers that these incidents were promptly addressed and resolved. In response, we have implemented enhanced process interventions, including intensified pipe flushing, accelerated pipe replacements, expedited leak repairs, and the closure of illegal connections,” it said.

“The health and safety of our customers and the integrity of our water supply remain our top priorities. Maynilad is committed to providing the highest quality water and will continue to take proactive measures to ensure the reliability and safety of our services. We also continue to work closely with the MWSS Regulatory Office and the Department of Health in monitoring the quality of the water supply distributed to our customers,” it added.

Maynilad is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area—composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus; and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite province. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
