Lower airfares seen as fuel surcharge level downgraded for July

Air travelers should expect lower fares next month after the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) downgraded the fuel surcharge level for July, Unang Balita reported on Tuesday.

From Level 6, CAB will lower the fuel surcharge to Level 5 from July 1 to 31, 2024.

This means fuel surcharge will range from P151 to P542 for domestic flights in July, down from the current P185 to P665.

For international flights, fuel surcharge will range from as much as P500 to P3,700, down from the current P4,500.

Fuel surcharge is an optional fee, apart from the base fare, that airlines may pass on to passengers to recover costs incurred due to the volatility of jet fuel.
