Country Builders rebrands as Top Bank, eyes expansion

Country Builders Bank Inc., one of the biggest rural banks in the country, has rebranded as Top Bank Philippines Inc. as it sets its sights on expansion through acquisitions and mergers.

In a statement on Wednesday, Top Bank said its rebranding “marks the start of a new era defined by its commitment to exceptional service.”

Top Bank president and chief executive officer Ismael Sandig said that they are keeping a “keen eye" on expansion opportunities through mergers or acquisitions as well as organic growth.

"Our vision is clear: to be the top-of-mind and trusted banking institution that transforms the lives of our customers by constantly providing easy, personal, and secure banking solutions while adapting to their changing needs through traditional and secured digital platforms," said Sandig.

Country Builders, now Top Bank, was a product of the consolidation of two banks—Country Rural Bank of Taguig Inc. and Builders Rural Bank Inc.—in 2012.

In 2017, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas approved the merger of Country Builders and First Macro Bank Inc., with the former as the surviving entity.

"Aligned with our strategic direction, we're simplifying access to financial support for small businesses, including sari-sari stores and retail ventures, making success simple for all customers," said Sandig.

Top Bank said it is upgrading its systems to introduce more offerings, such as mobile banking and an expanded ATM network.

"As part of this initiative, we're acquiring an ATM Switch and Card Management system to facilitate the launch of products like debit cards and more," said Sandig.  —VBL, GMA Integrated News
