Largest cruise ship Icon of the Seas sets sail

The largest cruise ship in the world, Icon of the Seas, has begun its maiden voyage from Florida, USA.

The ship is operated by Royal Caribbean International, according to a report on Unang Balita on Monday.

The vessel will dock in several ports in the eastern Caribbean region.

It can accommodate 8,000 passengers and crew.

Environmental groups meanwhile expressed concern about the possible harm the cruise ship may cause as it may release chemicals in the air.

Royal Caribbean however said the Icon of the Seas is 24% more efficient when it comes to managing its carbon emission compared to what is required by global shipping regulator International Maritime Organization. —KG, GMA Integrated News
