TRB starts dry run for unified RFID system
The dry run for the Toll Collection Inter-Operability project started Wednesday, enabling motorists to use one radio frequency identification (RFID) sticker for different expressways.
For now, only selected vehicles will be part of the dry run, which will be conducted on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, Manila-Cavite Expressway and Cavite-Laguna Expressway, according to James Agustin’s report on GTV’s Balitanghali.
The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) will review the results of the dry run as it targets going cashless at all expressway exits by July 2024.
TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz said the project’s primary objective is to provide better service to motorists.
“To make it more convenient sa ating mga motorist user, isa na lamang (na RFID) para sa lahat,” he said in a 24 Oras interview.
(To make it more convenient to our motorists, we’ll make it one RFID system for all.)
When asked if the motorists must change the current stickers, TRB said there are two possible options. The first is having a new account and a new RFID sticker for everyone while the second option is choosing which sticker the motorist's would keep and use.
“Mamimili po siguro ang ating motorista kung anong sticker doon ang kanyang gustong I-retain. Kaya lang kailangan yung sticker na yon maipacheck nating mabuti na ito'y in good working condition,” Corpuz added.
(Maybe our motorist will choose which sticker he wants to retain. That's why we need that sticker so we can check carefully that it is in good working condition.)
They said they are looking for the best way to make the changes easier for the driving public.
"We look forward na mapadali nga po itong mga testing natin, para maayos kung ano mang problemang nakikita at kailangang ayusin, nang sa ganoon ay mapatupad natin ng maayos, smoothly itong ating one RFID, one account system," he added.
