PLDT president Al Panlilio retires, MVP back as CEO
Alfredo Panlilio is stepping down as the president and chief executive officer of PLDT Inc., the Pangilinan-led telecommunications giant announced on Tuesday.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), PLDT announced Panlilio’s retirement will be effective on December 31, 2023 and that he is stepping down “due to health reasons.”
Consequently, PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan will take on the role as the telco’s president and CEO, effective January 1, 2024.
The telco said Pangilinan will be taking on the helm of PLDT “until such time as a new president and chief executive officer is appointed.”
It was only in 2021 when Pangilinan passed the PLDT baton to Panlilio.
According to PLDT, Panlilio “has been instrumental in steering the PLDT Group during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic and enabling the company to sustain profitability and industry leadership in that difficult period.”
Pangilinan, for his part, expressed gratitude to Panlilio “for his service and his loyalty, and wish him the very best."
“I also enjoin everyone to support a smooth transition within the PLDT Group at this critical juncture of its corporate life,” the PLDT chairman said.
PLDT said Panlilio will remain as director of PLDT, Smart, and MediaQuest Holdings Inc., chairman of Maya Bank and Bonifacio Communications Corporation, Director of Multisys Technologies Corporation and MultiPay, president of MVP Sports Foundation, Trustee of Asian Carriers Conference, and member of the Management Association of the Philippines.—RF, GMA Integrated News
