Marcos: Mega’s Batangas plant to contribute in achieving 10% growth in agribiz investments
STO. TOMAS, Batangas — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday inaugurated food canning giant Mega Global Corp.’s third manufacturing plant here.
In his speech during the inauguration ceremony here, Marcos said that the addition of the P1-billion Mega Manufacturing Plant is seen to “contribute to the achievement of the government’s target of a 10% annual increase in approved investments in the agribusiness sector.”
The President said that hitting a 10% yearly growth in approved investments in the industry is one of the key targets under his administration’s 2023 to 2028 Philippine Development Plan.
“Moreover, this plant will help meet the rising local demand for [canned] sardines, with its expected capacity to produce more than 11,600 metric tons. This fills up 27% of our local supply insufficiency in canned sardines,” Marcos said.
“This will greatly contribute to our efforts in ensuring food security and making seafood more convenient to consume for families across the country, especially during times [of crises],” the President added.
Mega Global Corp., in November 2020, announced its plan to build its first manufacturing plant in Luzon by investing over P1 billion.
The newly opened Mega Manufacturing Plant is the company’s third plant — the first two are located in barangays Ayala and Talisayan in Zamboanga City.
The Batangas manufacturing plant is expected to create over 1,000 jobs which are seen to boost the province’s local economy while ensuring food security in the country.
The new plant is under Mega Global’s subsidiary Mega Prime Foods Inc., which carries the sales and distribution of the parent firm’s portfolio of food products such as Mega Sardines, Mega Tuna, Mega Prime and Primo Sparkling Juice.
“Once operations of this plant commences, Mega Prime Foods Inc. continues to uphold highest food safety standards in its products with tireless passion for innovation, thus contributing to the consequent growth of the Filipinos at the household, community, and national-levels, making the company a partner of the Filipino in growth and recovery post-pandemic,” Mega Prime Foods growth and development officer Marvin Tiu Lim said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
