More flights canceled amid heightened restrictions — Cebu Pacific


Gokongwei-led Cebu Pacific on Friday announced the cancellation of more domestic flights due to heightened restrictions amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

In an advisory, the budget carrier said the aviation industry is managing the impact of COVID-19 on its workforce as it closely works with regulators and stakeholders.

Following the move of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to limit the number of arrivals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Cebu Pacific said the following flights are canceled until January 10, 2022:

Cebu Pacific also canceled flights going to and from Bacolod City after the local government of Negros Occidental has issued an Executive Order limiting the entry of flights to and from National Capital Region while it is on Alert Level 3.

The airline said it has reduced its flights from 16 times weekly between Manila and Bacolod to once daily or seven times weekly.

The following flights are cancelled until January 15, 2022: 

  • 5J 477/478 Manila – Bacolod – Manila (January 9 to 15)
  • 5J 487/488 Manila – Bacolod – Manila (January 11 and 13)
  • 5J 124/125 Cebu – Bacolod – Cebu (January 15) 

“As the situation remains fluid, additional flight cancellations may take place in the coming days, and so we appeal for your patience and understanding,” Cebu Pacific said.

“Cebu Pacific also continues to review its manpower levels with employees currently on quarantine. But we assure everyJuan that Cebu Pacific is working non-stop to minimize impact on customers and crew, while practicing health protocols,” it added.

Passengers affected by the cancellations have been informed through the contact details provided in their booking.

Affected passengers may choose to rebook for travel within 60 days at no additional cost, store the amount of their fare in a virtual wallet valid for two years, or seek refund which may take up to two months from the date of request.

Passengers who wish to voluntarily postpone their travel plans may conveniently cancel up to two hours before their scheduled time of departure and select their preferred option through Cebu Pacific website’s manage booking portal, the airline said. — LA, GMA News
