Smart partners with Vodafone for 5G roaming service in Australia

Smart Communications Inc., the mobile services unit of PLDT Inc., has partnered with multinational telco Vodafone to provide 5G roaming services for subscribers in Australia.

“This partnership with Vodafone Australia further solidifies Smart’s leadership as the Philippines’ first mobile network operator to have the most extensive 5G roaming rollout with telco industry leaders around the world, providing unparalleled roaming experience for Smart customers,” said Alice Ramos, vice president and head of Roaming and Consumer Business at Smart.

Australia remains a key destination for Filipinos and a trade partner of the Philippines, according to Smart.

The local telco said Vodafone’s 5G network is progressively being rolled out across Australia, while its 4G mobile network serves over 23 million subscribers in the “land down under.”

“This is the next step in Smart’s nonstop 5G roaming expansion in key markets across Asia, the Middle East, and now, in Australia,” said Ramos.

Smart’s prepaid and postpaid customers in Australia can enjoy worry-free 5G roaming speeds using their Smart 5G-certified device and Smart 5G-capable SIM.

Overseas customers can enjoy the full potential of Smart’s 5G roaming service with GigaRoam plans for as low as P999 for five days, the telco said.

The launch of Smart's 5G roaming service in Australia follows groundbreaking 5G partnerships with various operators worldwide, it said.

Smart recently teamed up with the world’s largest mobile network operator China Mobile.

The telco also partnered with other telcos in the Middle East with Zain in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia for 5G roaming as well as with Etisalat and du in the United Arab Emirates.

Smart also teamed up with top 5G mobile network operators FarEasTone in Taiwan and KT Corp in South Korea. -MDM, GMA News
