Emperador nets P8 billion in 2020, up 18%
Andrew Tan-led brandy marker Emperador Inc. saw its earnings last year grow by 18% on the back of strong international operations.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Emperador said its net income attributable shareholders stood at P8 billion, up 18% year-on-year.
The bottomline growth is attributed to the sustained growth in revenues amounting to P52.6 billion, slightly higher than the P51.6-billion revenues posted in 2019.
“Emperador's global footprint and iconic brand portfolio enabled the company to navigate through the challenges of 2020,” the brandy maker said.
“While certain aspects of the business have been affected by the impact of COVID-19, particularly on-trade and global travel retail resulting from lockdowns and dry law implementation, these have been offset by increased sales in off-trade and e-commerce," it added.
"While not totally impervious to the adverse effects of the conditions, Emperador’s global business adapted well to new consumption trends."
Emperador said its international business in 2020 remained strong across all geographies.
“Our whisky and brandy businesses continued its growth trajectory in the UK, Asia, Europe, USA, Netherlands, Sweden and Russia amidst the challenges,” it said.
Emperador is a publicly listed company that owns Fundador Spanish Brandy de Jerez and the Whyte and Mackay Group, the world’s fifth largest Scotch whisky producer.
The company said its Emperador brandy and whisky brands are available in more than 100 countries.
“The resilience of the company shows the strength of our business coupled with the strength of our whisky and brandy portfolio across the globe resulting in stability and growth amid the challenges. The company also took the opportunity to streamline efficiencies to enable the company to be nimble and effective in the markets. 2020 has set a new path and platform for our future growth,” said Emperador president Winston Co. -NB, GMA News
