GCash services unavailable on Christmas Eve

Services of GCash were temporarily unavailable as of Thursday afternoon, Christmas Eve, but the company has yet to provide additional information on the downtime, with restoration efforts ongoing.

"GCash services are temporarily unavailable," GCash said in an advisory posted through its social media channels.

"We are working hard to restore the service as soon as possible. For affected transactions, please be rest assured that funds are safe and will be processed within the next 24 hours," it added.

GCash is operated by Globe Fintech Innocations Inc., as part of the portfolio of 917Ventures, the corporate incubator of Globe Telecom Inc.

GCash services include buying and borrowing load, paying bills, booking movies, paying via QR, shopping online, and remittances, among others.

As of 05:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, GCash was the top trending topic on Twitter Philippines, with netizens posting their inconveniences due the to unavailability of services. 

In a separate social media post uploaded at 6:41 p.m., GCash said services have been restored.—RSJ, GMA News
