J&T Express to cooperate after Duterte orders probe on alleged parcel mishandling
Logistics and courier services firm J&T Express on Wednesday said it is open for any investigation that may arise after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered authorities to look into reports of mishandling of parcels.
“We appreciate the concern expressed by the President towards our customers’ welfare as well as the well-being of our many partners and employees,” J&T Express vice president Zoe Chi said in a statement.
“Furthermore, we will cooperate with the government in any investigation that they will conduct,” Chi said.
Duterte, on Tuesday night, ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the courier company while he has tasked the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to look into its finances.
This, after the company's employees were also caught on video throwing packages recklessly in a truck. A buyer later complained that a tablet delivered by the company had a cracked screen.
Duterte warned the firm's owner of possible closure should it be found liable. The President said he had received reports that some of the items it delivered were lost or replaced.
With this, the J&T Express official said the company is “committed to improving our services for the benefit of the public.”
The firm has earlier said that it would sanction those involved in the careless handling of parcels. -MDM, GMA News
