Araneta City gears up for reopening of railways, malls

Araneta City is now gearing up for the expected increase in commuters on Monday, with the reopening of railways and malls in line with the shift to a general community quarantine (GCQ).

In a statement on Sunday, Araneta City said it is "all set" to receive passengers of two railways in the area — the Metro Manila Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) — on Monday, June 1.

The country's main railways — the MRT, the LRT, and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) — are scheduled to reopen on Monday with the shift to the GCQ.

Aside from this, Araneta City said three of its malls will also reopen on Monday: Ali Mall, Gateway Mall, and Farmers Plaza.

According to Araneta, it will implement heightened security and sanitation measures at entrances of its malls adjacent to the railway stations:

  • "No facial mask, no entry" policy;
  • Minimum 1-meter distance between individuals, 2-steps distances in escalators and limited elevator capacity;
  • Social distancing guides through signages and floor markings;
  • Temperature checks - those with 37.6 degrees Celsius and above will not be allowed entry;
  • Putting up disinfectant-soaked footbaths and alcohol dispensers.

"As we slowly go back to our usual daily routine, we continue to comply with the directives of the national and local government," said Araneta City senior vice president for operations Antonio Mardo.

"This is to ensure that the City of Firsts will remain a safe place for everyone," he added. — LA, GMA News
