RCBC now allows clients to open new accounts online

The public may now apply for bank accounts with the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC), as the lender has rolled out an online account opening facility amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) placed over Luzon.

In a statement, the Yuchengco-led lender said it received the green light from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to onboard clients through its online platforms.

New clients who wish to avail may open an account through the RCBC Touch Q web portal, within 24 hours upon the submission of complete requirements. They will also have a video conference with a bank officer for the verification of account details.

"With the limited mobility that we have right now, this is a welcome and safe solution which will allow clients to bank from home, open an account, and bank with us," said RCBC Retail Banking Group head and executive vice president Richard Lim.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon from March 17 to April 13. It has since been extended to last until April 30 given the rising number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The newly-opened accounts can then be funded through online transfer services, which can be done up to 30 days after the ECQ is lifted.

"It's high time that we maximize RCBC's digital capabilities and embrace these solutions as this has become our new way of life," said Lim. --Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/KBK, GMA News
