DOTr-TWG gives Angkas more slots as JoyRide, Move It fail to reach quota
The Department of Transportation-Technical Working Group (DOTr-TWG) on Thursday increased the riders cap of motorcycle taxi pioneer Angkas to 20,000 in Metro Manila as the slots allotted for new players JoyRide and Move It were not filled up.
“Effective today, the unused cap will be redistributed for those ready providers,” TWG chair and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) member Antonio Gardiola said at a press conference.
Data from the motorcycle taxi pilot implementation study by the TWG showed the respective total number of authorized drivers submitted by the three participating motorcycle firms:
Metro Manila
- Angkas: 20,000
- JoyRide: 15,000
- Move It: 6, 409
To recall, the TWG increased the cap of 30,000 riders in Metro Manila to be equally distributed among Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It to 45,000 —meaning each service provider will have an allotment of 15,000 riders each.
Gardiola said since the two other players were not able to meet their respective caps, “the difference can be taken advantage by the company na may available riders.”
Angkas earlier said it has 27,000 riders in its fleet in Metro Manila.
“So the remaining cap, to meet that 45,000, will now be redistributed for those with ready drivers,” Gardiola said. — MDM, GMA News
