BEIJING, China —Computer giant Lenovo Group is bullish on its business in the Philippines, banking on the country’s economic growth and young population.

As measured by the gross domestic product (GDP), the Philippine economy grew by 6.2% in the third quarter of 2019. It was the second fastest growing economy in Asia after Vietnam’s 7.3%, and better than China’s 6%.

“If I look at the Philippines’s GDP ... This is definitely attractive for us in terms of investment,” Lenovo Asia Pacific president Ken Wong told reporters during a briefing at the Lenovo Tech World and Innovation summit.

“I think for the PC (personal computer) market it’s one of the strongest in Southeast Asia,” Wong said.

Lenovo is eyeing to close 2019 as the number one PC brand in the Philippines, said Lenovo Philippines country manager Michael Ngan.

Lenovo is also banking on the Philippines’ “very young population, energetic population,” Wong noted.

The median age in the Philippines is currently 24.4 years, according to UN data.

Lenovo is working on improving customer experience in the Philippines as well as in other markets.

The tech company is embarking on a customer-centric transformation “to come up with best products, most innovative products in the world.”

“If customers are happy, of course, they will buy more products of Lenovo,” he said. —VDS, GMA News
