PAL Holdings prexy Lucio Tan Jr. collapses during basketball game, says family
Lucio Tan Jr., newly-appointed president of PAL Holdings Inc. (PHI), the parent of Philippine Airlines Inc. (PAL), on Saturday collapsed during a basketball game, his family said.
In a statement, the Tan family said Bong Tan — son and namesake of business tycoon Lucio C. Tan — collapsed at midday during a basketball game in Mandaluyong City.
"He has been admitted to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition," the statement read.
"He is currently under observation and will undergo a series of diagnostic tests. During this difficult time, the Tan family is requesting media and the public to respect their privacy."
In October, the younger Tan took the helm of flag carrier's parent firm after Gilbert Gabriel Santa Maria vacated his post as president of PHI for "personal reasons."
Santa Maria in July took over from Vivienne Tan, daughter of Lucio Tan Sr. and sister of Bong.
While Santa Maria resigned as chief of PHI, he will remain as president and CEO of PAL. — MDM, GMA News
