Some Globe users encounter difficulties in contacting PLDT landline numbers

Some Globe users found it difficult to contact PLDT landline numbers after the migration to eight-digit landline numbers was implemented on Sunday.

According to a report by Mav Gonzales in GMA’s Unang Balita on Monday, a netizen using a Globe mobile number complained of not being able to reach a PLDT landline number.

Globe Telecom acknowledged the concern which it said was due to a technical issue on the part of PLDT.

“We have completed the migration of all Globe at Home, DUO and Bayan landline numbers with (02 area code) to 8 digits as mandated by the NTC,” the telco said in a statement.

“However, you may experience difficulty when calling PLDT landline numbers due to some issues encountered from their end,” it added.

On the other hand, PLDT said that as of Sunday noon it had finished migrating its entire database of 7-digit landline numbers in Greater Metro Manila to the new 8-digit number system.

“The vast majority of our customers can now call and be called via their respective 8-digit telephone numbers. Some lines in specific areas have however run into difficulties,” PLDT said in a separate advisory.

“We are working with our technical partners to resolve these problems as quickly as possible. We are also coordinating with our counterpart telco carriers to address issues between telcos,” it added.

Landline numbers in Metro Manila now consist of eight digits after the National Telecommunications Commission ordered the migration to accommodate the growing number of subscribers.

To make a telephone call, landline users need to add the number 8 for PLDT numbers and the number 7 for Globe numbers before the usual 7-digit landline number.

The area code (02) must also be keyed in first if calling long distance or through a cellphone. For those calling from abroad, the country code (063) and area code (02) should be dialed before the landline number. —Dona Magsino/VDS, GMA News
