Loaves in viral video for disposal, Gardenia says
Bread maker Gardenia said on Friday that the loaves from which the delivery man was seen pulling out slices in a viral video were old stocks and due for disposal.
"The slices he took were from pulled out loaves from stores which will be returned to the plant for disposal, NOT from fresh stocks for delivery to stores. As part of our freshness policy, Gardenia pulls out unsold breads from stores and replaces these with fresh stocks every day of delivery," Gardenia Bakery (Phils.) Inc. said in a statement.
"The quality of products and services for consumers is our highest priority," it added.
The viral video showed a delivery man taking slices from loaves and resealing them with the bread clip.
"Unfortunately, in this isolated case, the delivery man took out bread slices from pulled out loaves for his personal use. This is a violation of company rules and procedures. The personnel involved is now undergoing administrative due process," Gardenia said.
"Gardenia wishes to assure the general public that we are taking this very seriously and will be more vigilant to prevent such incident from happening again," it added.
