Lenovo eyes ending 2019 as the No. 1 PC company in PHL

Chinese computer maker Lenovo aimed to be the number one personal computing (PC) device brand in the Philippines this year banking on strong local market demand.

"Just recently in the Philippines, Lenovo is the No. 1 PC as of the first quarter," Lenovo Philippines country manager Michael Ngan said during the launch of the company's ThinkBook laptop in Makati City on Tuesday.

On the sidelines of the event, Ngan told reporters that Lenovo was the top PC brand in the country in terms of number of shipments.

"It's close to 100,000 units in one quarter," he said, noting that Lenovo was also the top PC brand worldwide in terms of shipments.

"The market is very fierce. We need to do what we need to do. Of course the strategy now is how to maintain the number one position," Ngan said.

The Lenovo country head, however, said the market was unpredictable.

"Nobody can predict that siyempre.. we just need to do what we need to do to be able to sustain [the momentum]," Ngan said.

"I think, with the introduction of the new ThinkBook, it will help maintain [our position.] But what we say is the market is very fierce," he added.

The new ThinkBook laptop features a magnesium-infused aluminum finish, 13.3-inch full high definition display, 8th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, 8 gigabyte onboard memory. The new laptop also features a smart power on fingerprint recognition device access.

Asked how many units of the ThinkBook Lenovo was targeting to sell in the Philippines, Ngan said, "Wala pa sa ngayon kasi it's very new. But definitely, it will help our commercial business in general."

"Our strategy is very simple, which to rely on the technology we have and introduce it to the market." — DVM, GMA News
