Grab opens 10,000 jobs to drivers from urban communities

Ride-hailing service Grab Philippine on Wednesday announced 10,000 slots have been opened to potential drivers from urban communities as part of a partnership with the Presidential Commission on Urban Poor (PCUP).

Under the memorandum of agreement, the livelihood opportunities are for drivers, bicycle riders, and motorcycle riders.

The agreement signed on Wednesday made Grab a participating enterprise and one of the government’s partners in PCUP’s nationwide job caravan.

“As we continue to grow, offer new services, and delight more customers, we are humbled that we are in a rather unique position to influence inclusive growth across multiple sectors, and do our part to ease poverty in the urban communities,” Grab Philippines president Brian Cu said.

Grab will take part in job caravans outside of Metro Manila such as Baguio City, Pampanga, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao City, and Cagayan de Oro.

PCUP has a one-stop-shop caravan for applicants to have their documents—birth certificate, NBI clearance—processed before applying for a job.

Alvin Feliciano, PCUP chair, said the commission will continue to take in more private sector partners willing to help ease poverty through the job caravan project.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa dami ng ating nilalapitang kumpanya, isa ang Grab sa mga nagpaunlak sa amin. Malaking tulong ito sa mahihirap na gusto rin ng pangkabuhayan,” he said.

Grab driver applicants are required to submit the following documents and information:

  • Professional driver’s license (at least 21 days before expiration)

  • NBI clearance (21 days before expiration)

  • Driver’s valid email account (Gmail only)

  • Android phone, version 6.0 and higher

  • Medical clearance (if the driver is 60 years old and above)

  • Drug test results

Additional requirements for motorcycle drivers:

  • Motorcycle OR/CR

  • Authorization letter from the owner of the motorcycle (if rider is not the owner)

  • TIN number

Successful applicants will undergo training from Grab and will be matched with operators looking for Grab Car and Grab Taxi drivers, the transport network company said.

Motorcycle riders will be assigned to Grab Food and Grab Express delivery services, it added. —Joviland Rita/VDS, GMA News
