Sketches show Bulacan airport’s look when finished

The Department of Transportation on Wednesday announced that it would award the P735-billion contract to build and operate the New Manila International Airport in Bulakan, Bulacan to San Miguel Corp.

San Miguel's proposed airport design provides for 100 million passengers a year and is seen to accommodate 240 aircraft movements per hour. It may also expand to 200 million passengers annually. The project will also include the construction of an 8.4-kilometer tollway that will connect the airport to the North Luzon Expressway in Marilao.

“It will make the lives of many air passengers—balikbayans, OFWs, tourists—so much better and easier,” SMC president and COO Ramon Ang said. “We still have a long way to go, but with the continued support of government and everyone, we hope to get started working right away."

The Bulacan airport is expected to be operational within four to six years after the start of construction, targeted before the end of 2019.
