Pilipinas Shell banks on e-commerce, logistics to boost engine oil business
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. expects double-digit sales growth for engine oils and lubricants on the back of a booming e-commerce and logistics business in the country.
“We want to grow at the same time how the [e-commerce] industry is growing,” Shell Lubricants marketing manager Anthony Wee told reporters on the sidelines of the Shell Rimula Light Duty launch in Pasay City on Thursday.
“We always want to grow double-digit,” Wee said.
Shell Rimula Light Duty is for pickup and light duty trucks typically used in logistics operations in support of e-commerce, the company said.
“As I mentioned earlier, when it comes to e-commerce, essentially these are the trucks, the deliveries. We’re focusing on that. Our task is to come in and help with effectivity, efficiency, and protecting the engines of these trucks,” Wee said.
Citing a Bloomberg Intelligence report, the oil company noted that the Philippines’ e-commerce gross merchandise value is expected to reach $10 billion by 2025.
“The rise of e-commerce globally has resulted in a similar growth in logistics operations as a crucial element that ensures products bought from online platforms are delivered to their buyers quickly and in excellent condition,” Wee noted.
“With the high demand of online businesses, light duty trucks need a product they can rely on ... Shell Rimula Light Duty is designed to address the needs of light duty truckers,” he added. —VDS, GMA News
