Japan’s Mos Burger to set up shop in PHL

Japanese fast-food chain Mos Burger is eyeing to open its first store in the Philippines this 2019 and reach 50 outlets by 2027, Mos Food Services Inc. announced Friday.

Mos Food Services told GMA News Online said its first store will be located in “the central area of Manila” this year.

“By 2027, we aim for 50 stores,” it said.

Mos Food Services and Tokyo Coffee Holdings, a subsidiary of local flour miller General Milling Co. Ltd., formed a joint venture to make it possible for Mos Burger to enter the Philippine market.

Mos Burger Philippines will be 35% owned by Mos Food Services and 65% owned by Tokyo Coffee.

The Philippines is Mos Food Services’ ninth overseas market in seven years since it entered Korea in 2012.

The Japanese company is banking on the Philippines’ economic growth and huge potential as a consumer market due to its population.

“The population of the Philippines is over 100 million and the average age is as young as 24 years,” Mos Food said.

“When we open a store in the Philippines, our target is high income men and women in their early 20’s to late 40’s who are influenced by Western culture,” it said. —VDS, GMA News
