Rustan's Supermarket pulls out SureBuy vinegar brand after FDA finding
Rustan's Supermarket on Tuesday ordered the recall of its house brand vinegar Surebuy Cane Vinegar after the Food and Drug Administration found out that it contains synthetic acetic acid.
“As soon as we learned about the advisory from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), we immediately ordered the pull out of Surebuy Cane Vinegar until this matter is threshed out,” Rustan's management told GMA News Online.
Five out of the 39 commonly used vinegar brands in the country that were tested by the FDA contain synthetic acetic acid and must not be sold, according to the advisory.
The FDA, however, clarified that the brands of vinegar found with this artificial matter were only deemed as substandard but does not pose a safety issue or any health risk to consumers.
GMA News is still trying to get the comments of the manufacturers of other brands that were mentioned by the FDA. —NB, GMA News
