Zalora to move warehouse facilities along MCX by Jan 2020

Online fashion retailer Zalora on Thursday unveiled plans to expand its warehouse storage facilities sevenfold, saying that it will move to a new billion-peso warehouse next year.

In a press conference in Taguig City, Zalora co-founder and CEO Paulo Campos III said the company plans to move into its new Fulfillment Center along the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX) by January 2020.

"It's a third generation warehouse which will feature innovative conveyor technology and some form of automation," said Campos.

Located on a 3.7-hectare property, the warehouse facility will have a 7.2-million item storage capacity, which compares with the 1.2-million item storage capacity of the current facility in Carmona, Cavite.

The facility will be leased by Zalora from AC Infrastructure, which will take charge of the construction that began earlier this year.

The new facility will have a racking space of 40,000 square meters with four-level seismic mezzanines, with a chain of conveyor systems and a system-assisted consolidation, sorting, and packing operations area.

It will also host some 1,200 employees over 24/7 operations, and could also be home to operations related to the contact center services of the company.

Campos said the company is still considering whether to renew the lease of its warehouse facility in Carmona, which is set to end this year.

"We are still deciding what to do... Generally, we prefer to have one facility," he said, noting that the Carmona facility could be used by Entrego, a partner of Zalora involved in delivery services.

Campos also announced Zalora's plan to expand its portfolio to include children's wear by the second half of the year.

"By second half of the year we will be launching Zalora Kids... As our customers mature with us, we want to be able to ensure we have products for the whole family," he said.

The company also announced plans to launch new celebrity collaborations by the second half, as well as the launch of at least four click and connect stores: two in Metro Manila, and two outside. — BM, GMA News
