Lazada year-end bargain drives sales up 30 times over its daily average
Online shopping platform Lazada on Tuesday said it saw its sales in Southeast Asia expand by more than 30 times its daily average during the year-end bargain.
Its sale on December 12 brought about over 55 million deals during the three-day promo period.
“During 12.12, Lazada Philippines rang up sales tally that was more than 20 times its normal-day Gross Merchandise Value,” it said, but did not elaborate.
“Year after year, we have advanced to the forefront of the country’s e-commerce industry through the years, driven by our commitment to improve shoppers’ experience and to enable sellers to reach bigger markets,” said Ray Alimurung, CEO at Lazada Philippines.
Deals were spread across three days—Bestsellers of 2018 on December 10, Holiday Shopping Finale on December 11, and Lazada’s Top Picks on December 12.
The company said more than 200 tons of parcels were bought from merchants overseas through the online marketplace during the sale, requiring the company to charter two flights from Hong Kong to facilitate deliveries.
The chartered flights were said to have carried purchases from Lazada’s Taobao Collection, as well as overseas merchants.
“The chartered flights, meanwhile, allowed for the shipment of large volumes of parcels at once and, thus, enabled Lazada to deploy them for last-mile delivery at the shortest time possible,” said Juan Pavez, Lazada Philippines CEO for operations and logistics. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
