Coca-Cola signs renewable energy supply deal with First Gen

Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines Inc. (KOFPH) has entered into an agreement with First Gen Corp. to power the bottler’s facilities in Ilocos, Pangasinan, Pampanga, and Cebu.

Agreements were signed with the retail electricity arms of First Gen, namely First Gen Energy Solutions Inc. (FGES) and Bac-Man Geothermal Inc. (BGI), to integrate more renewable energy in the cola maker’s operations, KOFPH said on Wednesday.

Listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, First Gen owns power plants fueled by natural gas, geothermal, wind, hydro, and solar energy.

“This partnership between KOFPH and FGES will help the local bottling company work towards its Global 2020 Sustainability Goals on Energy,” Coca-Cola said in an emailed statement.

GMA News Online has reached out to officials of Coca-Cola for more details of the agreement, but no response has been received as of this posting.

Approximately 40 percent of KOFPH’s electricity needs are now sourced from renewable energy and consumed by six of its 19 bottling facilities across the country. —VDS, GMA News
