Mandaluyong court allows motorcyle ride-hailing service Angkas to operate
App-based motorcycle ride-hailing service Angkas has been allowed to resume operations by a Mandaluyong court, pending a final decision from industry regulators.
“Angkas is back on the road,” ride-hailing service said on Thursday.
The Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Branch 213 granted Angkas’ request for a preliminary injunction against authorities and allowed it to resume its “motorcycle taxi passenger service” in a ruling on August 20, 2018.

The preliminary injunction prevents the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) from “interfering, whether directly or indirectly, with the petitioner’s operations.”
The court also stopped authorities from arresting Angkas bikers, who are in lawful pursuit of their trade or occupation and from performing any act that will impede, obstruct, frustrate, or defeat their pursuit lawful business.
“However, the continued problems in the country’s mass transport system, with the constant breakdown of the MRT and the traffic gridlocks in key thoroughfares, saw the intensifying of the clamor for an alternative mode of transportation in the last few months,” Angkas said in a statement.
“This prompted Angkas to file the petition for the preliminary injunction last July, which was eventually granted the following month,” it said. —VDS, GMA News
