Maynilad upgrades Dagat-Dagatan wastewater facility

Water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. on Tuesday announced that it has upgraded its Dagat-Dagatan Sewage and Septage Treatment Plant (DDSSTP) which would enhance the operational efficiency of treating wastewater generated in Caloocan, Malabon, and Navotas.

In a news release, Maynilad noted that the P70-million project includes the refurbishment of laboratory facilities, the renovation of the existing power house and hazardous waste storage facility, and the rehabilitation of the building and offices at the facility.

“Part of our long-term plan is to construct the largest Sewage Treatment Plant in the West Zone within our Dagat-Dagatan facility, which will produce effluent that complies with the stricter quality standards of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources," said Maynilad President Ramoncito Fernandez.

"Ultimately, this will help to reduce pollution loading in waterways that empty out to Manila Bay,” Fernandez added.

Maynilad said it is targeting to finish the rehabilitation project by February 2019.

Maynilad’s wastewater infrastructure network presently includes 17 sewage treatment plants, two sewage and septage treatment plants, one septage treatment plant, 42 pumping stations, 21 lift stations, and more than 500 kilometers of sewer lines. — Anna Felicia Bajo/MDM, GMA News
