Replacing LRT2 air con units may take up to 12 months —LRTA
Replacing the air conditioning units on Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) trains may take eight to 12 months, according to the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).
A P350-million contract to fix the air conditioning on the mass rail transit system was awarded to a joint venture between MRAIL Inc. and Multi-Scan Corp. last April. It covers the replacement of 80 air conditioning units on 10 running trains.
On Wednesday, at the launch of new train-driving simulators, LRTA administrator Reynaldo Berroya assured passengers that the systematic replacement of air conditioning units is a “final" long-term solution.
“Sana magtiis po ‘yung ating mananakay,” he said.
For the meantime, in an attempt to provide LRT2 passengers with a cooler ride in the tropical summer swelter, Berroya said the LRTA has came up with a temporary solution.
Locally-sourced parts will be installed—one train at a time—as a “stop-gap” measure to be implemented in the coming weeks.
“Kasi po ang lahat ng mga piyesa ng air conditioner natin ay pawang obsolete na. So, immediately, naghanap po kami ng innovative solution,” Berroya said. —VDS, GMA News
