Samsung ends Intel’s 25-year reign in chipset sales

Samsung has put an end to Intel's quarter-of- a -century reign in chipset sales, with the Korean tech giant posting $69 billion in end-2017 total revenue, overshadowing its competitor's $62.8 billion.

According to an article by Jon Russell, posted Wednesday afternoon by technology publisher TechCrunch, last year was a good, record-year for Intel.

But its "good year" was not enough to stop Samsung's ascent.

Citing a Bloomberg report, Russell said the Intel had occupied the top spot in chipsets business since 1992.

"The change of position highlights Samsung’s focus on mobile, and in particular memory chips which are an essential part of smartphones. Intel’s chips may be in 90 percent of the world’s computers, but it missed the mobile boom and is playing catch-up," Russell wrote. —LBG, GMA News
