Globe deploys 4,000 QR codes for cashless transactions in various merchants
Globe Telecom Inc. on Tuesday said it has deployed more than 4,000 quick response (QR) codes across the country under its scan-to-pay program.
The company said it now has more than 4,000 GCash QRs accepted in various merchants nationwide, including Ayala Malls, Robinsons Department Store, SM Malls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Cinema, Puregold, and Ministop.
Globe introduced in August its scan-to-pay system which allowed customers to pay by scanning the QR codes of merchants instead of transacting in cash.
“By enabling merchants to accept payments at virtually no cost, we are actually creating convenience for the merchants and translating that benefit back to the customers and that’s how it becomes more accessible to everyone,” said Anthony Thomas, president and chief executive officer of Mynt.
Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt) partnered with Jack Ma’s Ant Financial Services Group to improve and upgrade payments services in the Philippines.
Mynt said it was planning to double its subscriber base to 10 million by next year, fueled by the scan-to-pay program.
“Before, you need a POS or a reader for the cards to be accepted. But today, we eliminated all that,” Thomas said, citing the benefits of cashless transactions via GCash. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
