DOLE reminder: Double pay for workers on Independence Day

Employees in the private sector who will report for work on Independence Day on June 12 are entitled to receive "double pay," the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said over the weekend.

Based on DOLE's guidelines, workers are entitled to get 200 percent of their regular salary for the first eight hours on Monday, a declared regular holiday.

An additional 30 percent of the hourly rate will be given for work done in excess of eight hours.

Pay rules:

  • If the employee did not work, he or she shall be paid 100 percent of his or her salary for that day.
  • If 12 June is the employee’s rest day and he or she still reported for work, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her daily rate of 200 percent.
  • If the employee worked more than eight hours on his or her rest day on 12 June, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the day.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 50 last year, which declared Independence Day as a regular holiday.

Meanwhile, the DOLE has announced that at least 21 job and business fairs in over 14 regions in the country will be he held on Monday.

Applicants who are interested to be hired-on-the-spot should bring the following requirements: resume or curriculum vitae (bring extra copies for multiple job applications); 2x2 ID pictures; certificate of employment for those formerly employed; diploma and/or transcript of records; and authenticated birth certificate. —ALG, GMA News
