3 INDUSTRIES OVERTAKE IT SECTOR

FIND OUT: The latest top paying jobs for fresh graduates

Three industries overtook the information technology (IT) sector as the highest paying industry for fresh graduates, results of the latest Fresh Graduates Report of JobsStreet Philippines showed.

In a briefing in Taguig City on Wednesday, Jobstreet said fresh graduates who entered the law and legal services industry were paid the most with an average monthly salary of P27,124 in 2016.

This was followed by the healthcare industry at P23,216, and the journalism field with P21,777.

But the previous year's top paying sector for fresh graduates – the IT industry – slipped to fourth place at P21,703 versus P22,567 in 2015.

The IT sector was the most handsomely paid specialization in 2014 and 2015.

Premium on specialization

JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip A. Gioca said the IT sector was overtaken by other industries as employers are now putting more premiums in other industries.

"What I think is happening is that the BPO (business process outsourcing) industry is putting more premium on people who have specialization or talents in journalism, healthcare, and law," he told GMA News Online on the sidelines of the briefing.

"Marami na kasi sila. So, marami na tayong call center agents, marami na tayong telesales tsaka telemarketing," he added.

Also among top paying sectors are education (P21,457), actuarial science and statistics (P21,048) and training and development (P20,838).

Completing the top ten are banking and financial services (P20,092); public relations and communications (P20,055); and advertising and media planning (P19,960). — VDS, GMA News
