Elderly, PWD’s get free rides on LRT-1 on weekends, holidays over Christmas season

Senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will be given free rides on the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) on weekends and holidays this Christmas season, private operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) said Tuesday.

"CBC (concessionary beep card) holders can enjoy the free rides on all weekends and holidays from December 3, 2016 to January 8, 2017 in all stations of LRT-1," it said in an emailed statement.

According to the LRMC, CBCs are those that have been registered for use by a "concessionary person" or those eligible under Philippines law to avail of discounted fares in transport establishments.

This includes senior citizens and PWDs.

"To avail of the free rides, CBC holders must be accompanied by at least two family members. The CBC holder can proceed to the teller's booth in each LRT-1 station to activate his or her free ride," the LRMC said.

The LRMC earlier announced longer operating hours for the Christmas season, with the last trains leaving the Baclaran and Roosevelt stations at 11:00 p.m. —NB, GMA News
