Runway Manila to open by June 2017 – DPWH

The pedestrian bridge, connecting the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) and the Newport City in Pasay City, is on track to open by June 2017, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said Monday.

Dubbed as the Manila Runway, the project will be an enclosed, air-conditioned bridge with PWD-friendly facilities such as moving walkways and elevators.

“Once completed, Runway Manila will allow the average person to walk the distance between the airport and Newport City in less than ten minutes,” Villar said.

“Runway Manila is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 persons at any time, or up to 216,000 individuals per day. The bridge is for the benefit and free use of the public,” he added.

For his part, Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. President and CEO Kingson Sian said the project is in line with the government’s commitment to champion Philippine tourism.

“Runway Manila is part of our commitment to champion Philippine tourism and to contribute in nation building,” he said.

Travellers International is the developer and operator of Resorts World Manila in Newport City.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), NAIA T3 has the capacity to handle 13-million international passengers a year. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VS, GMA News
