A lower generation charge from suppliers has given the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) enough leeway to bring down the electricity rate this month to its lowest level since January 2010.

In an emailed statement on Monday, Meralco said the overall rate for November will decline by P0.0781 to P8.26 per kilowatthour (kWh).

"The reduction is mainly due to the downward movement in the generation charge," the statement read.

"This month’s decrease translates to a reduction of around P16 in the electricity bill of a household with monthly consumption of 200 kWh," it said.

Meralco's franchise area in specified areas in Luzon is approximately 9,337 kilometers, covering 36 cities and 76 municipalities. It includes Metro Manila, industrial estates, and suburban and urban areas of nearby provinces. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
