NGCP places Luzon grid on red alert
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday placed the Luzon Grid under red alert due to an unexpected shutdown of several powerplants.
The red alert warning is effective from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In an interview with DZBB, NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza said that the shutdown caused a power shortage in the entire luzon region.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the red alert was necessary due to zero operating reserves brought about by insufficient power supply from generating plants.
Its power outlook as of 10 a.m. showed the following supply-demand scenario for Friday:
- Available capacity at 9,030 megawatts (MW)
- Peak demand at 8,564 MW
Alabanza said that the critical period will be at 2 p.m. due to the large consumption of electricity at that hour.

Meanwhile, the NCPG is transferring electricity from Visayas to Luzon.
