BGC Bus rolls out use of beep card

Bonifacio Global City (BGC) Bus  and AF Payments Inc. on Monday officially rolled out the beep card system in bus operations plying the route around the financial and lifestyle district of Taguig City.

In a press briefing, BGC Bus General Manager Jun Galvez announced that the beep cards will now be accepted in all seven BGC Bus routes.

The beep card is a tap-and-go payment system devised by AF Payments Inc. for trains and select Metro Manila bus stations.

With the aim of making the beep card an all-in-one travel card for Filipinos, BGC Bus partnered with AF Payments Inc. for the said project.

"With the beep cards, it brings more convenience to our passengers and commuters. And with the current technology that we have, hopefully, more and more bus companies will use this system," Galvez said.

The beep payment system was initially employed in the elevated railways traversing the metro including LRT Lines 1 and 2, and MRT Line 3.

The new beep card for BGC Bus replaces the TapBGC stored value cards.

"One of our goals really is to have a more or less world-class transport system. With this partnership, we are really happy that all BGCitizens will have a single card in their pockets," Galvez said.

The card can be purchased at railway stations and at the BGC Bus station in Makati.

Each card costs P20 and can be reloaded up to P10,000 at the maximum. Validity of the card lasts for four years.

AF Payments CEO and President Peter Maher hopes that the use of the beep card can be adopted by other bus operators.

"Our whole plan is to make beep card ubiquitous in the city," Maher said.

"We are hopeful that we can partner with more bus operators over the rest of the year," he added.

Maher said they are planning to extend their loading networks to include convenience stores.

"We have made it easier for people to reload their cards. We will extend our loading networks to convenience stores," Maher said.

He also announced plans to integrate the beep card system in tollways. —KG, GMA News
