Meralco: Power plant shutdowns compel NGCP to raise yellow alert
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) raised on Friday a yellow alert warning over the Luzon grid due to outages in several power plants.
According to the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the alert was issued when the power plants GN Power 2, Angat Main 2, Pagbilao2, Malaya1, and SLPGC1 unexpectedly shutdown.

The power plants have a total capacity of of 1,174 megawatts.
As per @ngcp_alert, Yellow Alert status is from 10:01 AM-12NN & 1:01PM-3PM.

The yellow alerts status is from 10:01 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:01 p.m. to 3 p.m., according to NGCP.
A yellow alert means the grid has thin reserves based on the difference between supply and demand.
NGCP data shows the available grid capacity as of 6 a.m. Friday was 10,233 MW against a peak demand of 9,400 MW.
To avoid rotational brownouts, Meralco advised its customers to conserve electricity. – Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
