Meralco: More than 1,000 households now use 'kuryente load'

More than 1,000 households in Rizal and Manila are now using Manila Electric Company's (Meralco) prepaid electricity scheme or "kuryente load", the "24 Oras" newscast of GMA News reported on Thursday.

Meralco is expecting the number of "kuryente load" users to grow to 4,000 households next year.

Under the scheme, a prepaid scheme user will purchase load credits from Meralco business centers, Bayad centers, and selected retail retailers.

Unlike cellphone loads which sets an expiration date for credits, the "kuryente" load does not have an expiration.

Its users will also enjoy power rate adjustments.

The prepaid scheme allows users to buy a minimum of P100 load credits and a maximum of P1,000.

"Hindi po kakainin ang load, ito po guaranteed, kapag medyo nawawala napakadaling imbestigahan, nand'yan pa rin ang metro, nakikita ang reading so wala talagang nawawala," Merlaco Central Business Area head Ferdie Geluz said in the report.

Meralco is sending prepaid scheme users a text advisory that will notify them of their load balance.

"Kapag mababa na 'yung load... may warning na mag-reload na sila, may reminder naman, so hindi sila magugulat," Meralco Kuryente Load Project Manager.

One of the prepaid users claimed she spent P200 over four days.

Meralco said installation of the prepaid meter is free of charge.  — Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza/ELR, GMA News
