PhlPost hikes customs charge for intl parcels to P100

Filipinos getting parcels from abroad will have to pay at least P50 extra, after the Philippine Postal Corp. hiked its Presentation to Customs Charge (PTCC).

PHLPost said the PTCC, to be collected upon delivery of international postal items, has increased from the present P50 to P100 effective last September 15.

"The increase in PTTC is being undertaken to generate additional revenue for the postal corporation in order to respond effectively to the needs and expectations of the customers through quality of service," PHLPost said.

International postal items include international express mails, parcel post service and small packet coming from other countries that are subject for Customs examination, it said.

The increase was approved on August 14, via PHLPost Board Resolution No. 2014-86 and PHLPost Administrative Order No. 14-03 dated August 27.

PHLPost said the PTTC is a regular fee collected by postal administrations worldwide.

Covered by the PTTC are:

- International Express Mail Service (IEMS), the fastest means of sending time-sensitive items from abroad
- Parcel Post Service, mail matters above two kilos
- small packet items including letters, cards or any printed matter weighing not more than two kilos.

"Items submitted to Customs control are subjected to a presentation-to-customs charge, the amount of which is set by the postal agency concerned," PhlPost said.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
