SM Prime opens first mall in Cagayan Valley

SM Prime Holdings, Inc., the Philippines' largest property developer, opened SM City Cauayan in Isabela province on Friday. This is its first mall in Cagayan Valley and its 49th mall nationwide.

The mall, measuring about 66,299 square meters, is SM's first open strip mall. SM opted for a green and cost-effective approach by installing ceiling fans instead of the typical air conditioner units to cool the arcaded walkways and storefront hallways.

Situated in Cauayan City, the region's central business district, SM City Cauayan is accessible to over half a million people from 11 nearby towns in Isabela.

“We are excited about the opening of SM City Cauayan which is situated at the industrial and commercial hub of the Cagayan Valley region. We look forward to serving thousands of our countrymen as we continue to expand in various regions of the country which offer so many opportunities for growth,” SM Prime president Hans Sy said in a press release.

SM Prime plans to expand in various regions outside Metro Manila after getting positive feedback from its other provincial mall openings. — Janelle Cosino/JDS, GMA News
