Meralco to refund customers February overpayment

Meralco will refund overpayment made by customers in the February billing, according to a report aired on GMA News' "Saksi" Tuesday night.

In a phone interview Wednesday, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said the utility firm told the Energy Regulatory Commission it will voluntarily return to customers overpayments made last month.

"Meralco wrote to ERC to give back some 37,000 customers overpaid last month," he said.
 

ERC executive director Francis Juan said some customers have already paid the over P2 generation charge, the first of the three-part installment of the record P4.15 per kilowatt hour rate hike.

 

However, the number of customers who paid the deferred amount has not yet been determined, the ERC official said.

 

"May mga customers sila na nagbabayad o nakapagbayad nung full amount kasama 'yung deferred balance kaya't ang Meralco ay nagsabing ibabalik niya ang mga sobrang naibayad na ito sa kanyang mga customer sa pamamagitan ng credit to bill," Juan said.

 

Meralco, for its part, will not include in the March billing the deferred payment to avoid confusion. —Danessa O. Rivera/KG, GMA News
