ICTSI to operate Tacloban Port a further 6 months
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has agreed to extend its contract to operate the Tacloban Port for another six months, guaranteeing port operations while Tacloban continues its recovery from Typhoon Yolanda. As part of the extension, ICTSI will continue to run the Tacloban port still using its own equipment. The Philippine Ports Authority had earlier called on the services of ICTSI to temporarily run the Tacloban Port to give Leyte Integrated Port Services, Inc., the existing cargo handling operator at the port, time to recover as its equipment was damaged by Yolanda. The equipment brought in by ICTSI included 12 forklifts, seven generator sets, six tower lights, several units of reach stackers, and five payloaders. Meanwhile, Pilipinas Shell agreed to to donate another P6 million worth of fuel for the ports's operations. This brings the total fuel donation to the port at P12 million. “I commend and appreciate the gesture showed by ICTSI and Pilipinas Shell in helping the PPA aid the reconstruction process not only of Tacloban Port but most especially the entire region,” PPA General Manager Juan C. Sta. Ana said. — DVM, GMA News
