El Nido's Entalula, Romblon's Bon Bon among world's top 50 beaches
The Philippines has long been known for its beautiful pristine beaches, from Boracay's famous White Beach and Coron's Banul Beach to Paradise Beach on Bantayan Island and Nacpan Beach in El Nido, among many others.
Now, beach bums will be glad to know that there are two more local destinations to add to the itinerary of their next beach trip.
El Nido's Entalula Beach recently ranked fourth on the World's 50 Best Beaches list for 2024 released this May. It joins the likes of Trunk Bay on the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cala Mariolu in Italy, Meads Bay in Anguilla, and Voutoumi Beach in Greece to make up the top five.
Entalula Beach is known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, white sand, and crystal-clear waters. Due to its secluded location, the beach isn't as frequented compared to other famous beaches in El Nido, making it the perfect spot for those who want to steer clear of Palawan's usually touristy areas.
Romblon Island's Bon Bon Beach meanwhile made it to the list, ranking 45th.
Although known as the country's marble capital, Romblon has been gaining more attention in the past years as a beach destination thanks to its immaculate coasts and fresh seafood.
Bon Bon Beach, described as "a laid-back undeveloped paradise," boasts a natural sandbar that extends to Bangug Island. Characterized by its powdery white sand and clear waters, the untouched beach offers itself as the quintessential serene paradise away from all the urban noise.
The World's 50 Best Beaches list gathers thousands of experienced travel professionals and travel journalists to vote for what they believe is the best beach. The new and improved in-depth list debuted in 2021.
Aside from the votes, an in-house team of travel experts also works with beach ambassadors known for their experiences on the world's top beaches to review every submission.
The final list is chosen based on eight criteria, namely a beach's uniqueness; likelihood of beachgoers to encounter wildlife; a beach's untouched nature; soundtrack of nature; ease of entry; calm waters; crowds; and idyllic state.
