7 countries you can visit to enjoy the cherry blossom season

Sakura season is here! It's a given that Japan is the first country in mind, but there are many more places where cherry blossoms bloom.

Here are destinations to consider if you're looking for a flowery view:

1. Myanmar

In Myanmar, there are plenty of cherry blossom trees in the Chin and Shan States.

The country holds an annual Cherry Blossom Festival, along with an ethnic traditional food exhibition.

This year, the festival will be held in Kengtung province.

2. South Korea

Native in South Korea are the King cherry blossoms, which produce larger and brighter blooms than the ones seen in other countries.

The King cherry blossoms bloom in April. One location where you can find them is the Wansan Flower Garden in Jeonju.

Of course, cherry blossom trees can be found in many other spots in South Korea. They also hold festivals for it, like the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival.

3. India

There are several places to enjoy the view of the cherry blossom trees in India, like Himachal Pradesh, Bangalore, and Nagaland.

In Shillong, Meghalaya, visitors can enjoy the cherry blossoms as soon as spring starts. They can also enjoy local flavors at the local cherry blossom festival, which also features fashion shows, pageants, concerts, and more.

4. China

Head to Beijing if China is your country of choice to enjoy spring!

Yuyuantang Park gives a picturesque view of the cherry blossoms because there's also a large lake.

If you want more flowers to go along with the cherry blossoms, head over to the Botanical Gardens, where you can see other springtime blooms, like tulips.

5. Australia

Did you know that Australia has its own Sakura Avenue?

Located in the town of Cowra, the Sakura Avenue started off as a bicentennial project in 1988. Cherry blossom trees were planted between the Cowra War Cemetery and the Japanese Gardens as a sign of peace and reconciliation with the Japanese people.

It would be quite a breathtaking drive up that avenue!

6. New York City

Yes, there are cherry blossoms in NYC!

If you're in the city in time for the cherry blossom season — late March or early April through mid May — you may want to check out the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Look for Prunus × incam ‘Okame’ in the Cherry Cultivars Area and Prunus hirtipes in the Plant Family Collection.

7. Denmark

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, transforms into picture-perfect streets come spring.

The Bispebjerg Cemetery is one of the most popular places to view the cherry blossoms, but the trees are also present in the Botanical Gardens.

Another option is the Langelinie Park, where the annual Sakura Festival is also held. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
